Seminar Studies on Buoyancy Induced Open Flows: Plane Thermal Plume
Rajaram Lakkaraju

Details:

Natural convection over a line heat source is studied for mean flow and linear stability characteristics for different Prandtl numbers. The mean flow leading and higher order terms are computed by boundary layer approximations. The linear stability characteristics are computed with parallel flow and non-parallel approximations. This work uncovers a new instability mode indicating hydrodynamic and thermal perturbations are inseparable at high Prandtl numbers.

And recent progress on how to separate hydrodynamic and thermal perturbations at very high prandtl numbers: Room for group invariance.
