Journal Club Stress and Fold Localization in Thin Elastic Membranes
Siddartha Das

Details:

From formation of the great Himalayas millions of years back to the very latest technology of stretchable electronics, several striking phenomena can be explained by studying wrinkling and folding of a solid under compression. In this talk, I shall discuss a paper that investigates how a thin elastic sheet, supported on a suitable substrate can undergo a continuous transition from wrinkling to folding under gradually increased compression.
