Seminar The fluid mechanics and mass transfer of falling liquid films
Andrea Prosperetti

Details:

Liquid films flowing down an inclined or vertical solid plane develop a complex system of large waves accompanied by small ripples that have a major effect on mass and heat transfer. After a general review of the fluid mechanics of these films, the talk focuses on the capillary ripples showing that their phase speed—and, therefore, their wavelength—are subordinated to that of the large waves. The last part of the talk deals with the transfer of a dissolved gas out of the film as the process is influenced by the wave system.
