Journal Club Panta rei? (Everything flows?)
Dennis van Gils

Details:

Does 'solid' glass or rock flow under gravity on geological timescales?

This will be one of the questions addressed in tomorrow's journal club. The question was highly debatable until quite recently (~2000). In a lengthy article by Barnes published in 1999, he advocates that everything flows, in Greek 'Panta rei'. He provided numerous measurements that seemed to support this theory. New insight, as published by Moller et al, on the viscosity measurement techniques that were and are still used, explains how one can misinterpret viscosity measurements, leading to the notion of 'panta rei'.
