Seminar Interfacial instabilities in Marangoni-driven spreading of polymer solutions on soap films
Melika Motaghian

Details:

We studied the spreading behavior of droplets containing polymers and surface active molecules once they are deposited on a soap film. This set up allowed us to investigate the spreading behavior of multicomponent droplets in the absence of no-slip boundary conditions. We demonstrate that, in this scenario, viscous forces act along the direction of the spreading, resulting in a linear time dependency of the radius of the spreading front. At high concentrations of polymer, interfacial instabilities emerged at the leading edge. We show that these instabilities are originated in the strong elastic response of the polymer solution.
