Seminar Basics of inkjet printer design
Frits Dijksman

Details:

Inkjet print heads are composed out of many small sized valveless pumps. Droplets are produced by pulse wise actuation, e.g. by an piezo element or a heater.
Pulse wise actuation causes sound waves, and these sound waves upon arriving at a nozzle are transferred into fluid velocity and finally into droplets.
The acoustics of a single nozzle print head can be understood by considering it as a Helmholtz resonator. This approach can be easily extended to multi-nozzle print heads.

In the presentation the theory will be outlined and the fluidic cross-talk in multi-nozzle print heads explained.
